Lochcarron village is five miles from Ardaneaskan and both villages make excellent sites from which to explore some of the most beautiful and romantic scenery in the highlands of Scotland. In fact we believe this area has some of the most magnificent scenery to be found in the whole of the British Isles. As well as breathtaking views, there is abundant wildlife including otters, seals, pine martens, porpoises, and many sea birds. Many of which can be seen from the cottage if you are lucky enough. Stretching for 2 miles along the north shore of the deep sea Loch Carron, from which the village derives its name, Lochcarron has a resident population of about 900. Ardeneaskan has a population of around 20 residents and is very quiet at all times. Lochcarron provides all necessary local amenities. These include :- Two food stores, two petrol suppliers, two churches, a butcher's, a Post Office, two pub / hotels with restaurants, a café offering takeaway meals, a bank (with Cashpoint), three garages, 2 dentists, and a medical centre. For more creative retail therapy there are craft shops, a wood turner's, pottery manufacturers, a heritage centre and the internationally famous Lochcarron tartan weavers, plus a small museum in Ardaneaskan itself.
